North Central Jail Overview
North Central Regional Jail and Correctional Facility is operated by the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation. It is a regional jail and correctional facility in Greenwood, Doddridge County, and it is the primary jail facility serving Ritchie County arrests. The official facility page lists Doddridge, Harrison, Marion, Monongalia, Pleasants, Ritchie, Wirt, and Wood as served counties. That regional model is why Ritchie County does not have a separate county jail page or a Harrisville jail roster.
The facility holds pretrial felony and misdemeanor detainees, sentenced jail inmates, and other people assigned through WVDCR. A person arrested in Ritchie County may be booked at North Central unless released by citation, taken directly to court, held for transport, or moved to a different authority. Sentenced state-prison custody is searched through the WVDCR prison offender search, not through the North Central jail roster.
North Central Capacity Notes
The official facility page does not publish a current capacity figure. Research found conflicting outside capacity references: a DCR FY2025 search snippet reported rated population 1,013, while an October 2025 news report cited lawmakers saying North Central held 825 people against a capacity of 564. Because those figures differ, capacity should be treated as a verification item. For Ritchie County users, the more important point is that North Central is a regional facility, so any facility population count is not a Ritchie-only jail population.
Look Up North Central Inmates
The correct public lookup for North Central Regional Jail and Correctional Facility is the WV Regional Jails offender search. Daily Incarcerations is also useful for recent admissions by county or institution. A Ritchie County search should not stop at the facility name alone because North Central receives people from several counties.
- Open the WV Regional Jails offender search and enter at least three letters of the last name.
- Add a first name when the surname is common or the result list is long.
- Check the listed facility and custody status for North Central Regional Jail.
- Use Daily Incarcerations for new admissions that may not yet be easy to find by name.
- Search the WVDCR prison locator if the person was sentenced and moved out of regional-jail custody.
The official facility page was captured in the project image set and confirms the facility as the regional jail serving Ritchie County.
The screenshot is a facility reference, not a name search result, so inmate status still comes from the OIS search or facility confirmation.
North Central Address and Phone
Call the facility before visiting, sending funds, or relying on a same-day online listing. Public lobby hours and record-release rules were not published in the research materials, so the phone line is the practical confirmation route for custody, visitation, and facility-specific instructions.

Visiting North Central Jail
North Central visits are non-contact. The inmate starts the request through the kiosk or NCRJ Form 5-0033 when the kiosk is down. Requests are submitted between Monday morning and noon Thursday for the next visiting week. The visiting week begins Sunday and ends Thursday. Each visit is 30 minutes, and each inmate receives one visit per month. Visitors more than 15 minutes late may be denied unless they called ahead with a valid reason.

North Central Visitor Rules
Adult visitors must present valid government photo identification. Accepted ID includes a driver or operator license, state non-driver photo ID, U.S. passport or passport card, or U.S. military ID. The rules reject Social Security cards, credit cards, insurance cards, hunting or fishing licenses, and self-generated IDs as visitor identification. Children may need a birth certificate, parent or legal guardian, or notarized permission depending on the visit situation.
Visitors are subject to search procedures, including canine searches when available, magnetometer, x-ray machines, and pat searches. The dress code bars shorts, headwear, tight clothing, sleeveless clothing, offensive logos, drug or alcohol ads, low-cut or short tops, unapproved skirts or dresses, and items that cannot clear security. No alcohol or drug impairment, contraband, tobacco, unauthorized exchange of articles, or parking-lot loitering is allowed.
Mail Phone and Money
Official NCRJ source material was thin on mail format, phone vendor, video vendor, commissary limits, and fee schedules. The facility page links a Money Order Deposit Form, but the direct form URL was not exposed in the captured text. Because the official research did not verify a phone or deposit vendor, those details should be confirmed directly with North Central before sending money or setting up accounts.
| Service | Verified Detail |
|---|---|
| Specific mail format not located in official captured material. Call the facility before mailing. | |
| Phone or video | Vendor and pricing not confirmed from official NCRJ pages. |
| Money deposit | Facility page references a Money Order Deposit Form, but fees and direct form details were not captured. |
| Commissary | Limits, vendor, and fee schedule not located in official NCRJ sources. |
North Central Booking Intake
A Ritchie County arrest can be routed to North Central for intake. Intake may include identifying the person, recording personal data, searching and storing property, medical and security screening, and classification. The person may then appear in WV Regional Jails OIS or Daily Incarcerations after data entry. The state search disclaimer says information can change quickly and may not show the latest location, release date, or status.
Booking is not the same thing as a final court case. The court record may begin with a criminal complaint, and bond or first-appearance details may be handled in magistrate court. Filed charges can later change through prosecutor review, indictment, information, dismissal, plea, or trial.
Directions to North Central
Official directions place North Central just off U.S. Route 50. From I-79 near Clarksburg, take exit 119 onto U.S. Route 50 west toward Clarksburg and Parkersburg. From I-77 near Parkersburg, take exit 176 onto Route 50 east toward Clarksburg. The visitation rules give a practical turn sequence: use Stone Valley Road from Route 50, turn onto Duckworth Road, travel about one-half mile to Lois Lane, then turn right onto Lois Lane, which dead-ends at the facility.
Visitor travel takes planning. The official rules say no local transportation and no bus service are available. The nearest taxi service is in Clarksburg and Parkersburg, and one hotel was listed in Ellenboro, 11 miles from the facility. Visitors should not arrive assuming they can wait in a vehicle on facility property.
About North Central Jail
North Central has operated since August 2001 and is described by WVDCR as one of the largest jails in the state. The facility resource guide lists reentry and community resources, including West Virginia 211, Help4WV, Alcoholics Anonymous, WV Medicaid, crisis and domestic violence hotlines, veterans crisis resources, substance-use treatment, counseling, housing, and employment contacts. The guide states that the facility does not promote any particular provider and presents the list as a guide for assistance.
Note: Confirm custody, visit approval, and current facility rules with North Central before traveling from Ritchie County.
